Episcopal Missionary Diocese of Eluru

Bishop John was a Priest under the Royal Priesthood of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church ( the Catholicate of the East ), Ordained on 23 rd May 1995 by His Holiness Moran Mor Baselios Marthoma Mathews II at Devalokam, Kottayam, Kerala and worked as Mission Priest, Vicar and the Director of the Andhra Mission of the Orthodox Diocese of Madras, India.

He is a Post Graduate in Philosophy, Graduate in Education, Master of Theology and Doctor of Divinity
( Hon.). He is a good recognised Social Worker concentrated on women empowerment, child development, eradication of Child labour etc., Well Experienced in establishing and running educational institutions for both secular and theological. He is a good writer, translated the Holy liturgy of the Orthodox Church, Compiled many referential and messages books, handbills on different topics., an Eloquent ecumenical speaker.

He is a pioneer of Missions, elevated as Bishop on 12 th February 2005, by His Grace the Most Revd.Dr.Duraisingh James, the Arch Bishop for the Province of India in the Communion of Evangelical Episcopal Churches-USA and entrusted with the Episcopal Missionary Diocese of Eluru of the India Christian Mission Church (estb.in 1897 ). He is the present SECRETARY GENERAL for the Communion of Evangelical Episcopal Churches - India.


The Diocese is working for traditional hill tribal congregations in Tripura - a noth-eatern state of India apart from congregations in the Visakhapatnam Agency in Andhra Pradesh state. Church Plantation and Social Work is the prime work of the Diocese.

The New Diocese - Episcopal Missionary Diocese of Eluru was promulgated by the unanimous resolution of the Joint Council of the Central Committee and the Trust Board of the India Christian Mission Church on 30 th May 2005 and its constitution was approved by the same Joint Council on 25 th January 2006. The Diocese was ERECTED on 11 th February 2006 by the UNANIMOUS RESOLUTION of the GENERAL BODY during its General Convention-2006. Then the EPISCOPAL MISSIONARY DIOCECSE OF ELURU
came into being.
The Suffragan Bishop The Rt.Revd.Dr.N.JOHN SD Raju was appointed BISHOP of the DIOCESE on 11 th February 2006 itself.

DOCTRINE
****************

The Diocese claims and cherishes its place in the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church which is the Body of Christ. It rejoices in the inheritence of the Apostolic faith and loyally accepts the fundamental principles of the historic Creeds - The Nicene, Athanasian and the Apostolic.

The Diocese is Orthodox in Faith, Anglican in Tradition, Episcopal in Governence and Sacramental & Evangelical in Practice.

The Diocese adopts the Book of Common Prayer - 1928 edition and the Telugu Translation of the India Christian Mission Church - 2004 and acknowledges the 39 Articles of Religion of 1801. Tha Psalms of David and the traditional Andhra Christian Hymn Book -1866 ( Dawson Hymn Book published by Christian Literature Society) are adopted for Doxology. The Diocese allows only MEN for the HOLY ORDERS.

As the Diocese is Episcopal, the Ministry is being carried on by three fold ministry.... the Bishop, the Priest and the Deacon under the valid Apostolic Succession . The SISTERHOOD is also exists and function according to the standing canons of the Diocese.

The Diocese maily recognizes TWO sacraments namely BAPTISM and HOLY EUCHARIST as of divine appointment and perpetual obligation of which, it is the previlege and duty of the members of the Diocese to avail themselves. The other rites: the Confirmation, the Holy Matrimony, the Ordination, the Penance and the Unction are also regarded.

The Bishop is striving like anything to serve for the poor tribals of Tripura (tribe called-REANG)and Visakhapatnam Agency who have no shelter, food, literacy , transportation and even BIBLES. Church buildings are needed and the Missionaries are to be assisted. Liturgy and Bibles are to be printed and distributed in their dialect.

The Bishop is humbly requesting the World Church Bodies, Voluntary Organisations, Philonthropists to come farward to assist the poor parishioners of the Diocese and for the outreach programmes.

ARADHANA (TELEVISION PROGRAMME )

“Go ye into all the world, and preach the Gospel to every creature” – St. Mark 16:15.

The Church has started the evangelical programme through the Television called ARADHANA (means WORSHIP)in the HCV
( Helapuri Cable Vision Network ), an ELURU city based network from 12 th November, 2005.

The Telecast is on every SATURDAY during 8:00 to 8:30 P.M.,in TELUGU language.

Bishop JOHN SD Raju is delivering heart-touching messages and pray for the sick and needy which touches around 100 neighbouring villages apart from ELURU city.

The speciality of this programme is :

This is only the programme in which a traditional Bishop is delivering messages. There are TV programmes but only by the independent (almost individual)churches. None of the traditional churches i.e., Roman Catholic, Church of South India, Lutheran, Methodist, Salvation Army, Baptist, are not conducting any Television programme. But all the faithful of these churches are appreciating the programme.

This programme is purely being run based on FREEWILL offerings of the faithful. As we have no studio of our own at present( as we could not afford to make it as it costs about Rs.2 laks, i.e., US $ 4,500 ), the Bishop and the Anchor is personally going to the studio of the SITI CABLE and recording the messages there itself. We need US $ 60 towards the cost of one EPISODE.
